MVCC Men, Women advance to NJCAA Tournament quarterfinals

The NJCAA 2020 Region III – Division III Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament fields have been announced, with the MVCC Men earning the top seed, and the MVCC Women earned the No. 4 seed. Both tournaments begin this weekend.

The MVCC Men’s Basketball team is currently undefeated at 22-0 in Region III, with their final regular season matchup scheduled for today at Schenectady Community College. The Hawks are currently the second-ranked team in the nation in Division III. They received a bye and advance to the quarterfinals with a home game at 8 p.m. Tuesday against the winner of Saturday’s game between No. 8 North Country and No. 9 Columbia-Greene. If the Hawks win on Tuesday, MVCC will host the Regional Semifinals and Finals on Feb. 29 and March 1, respectively.

The No. 4-seeded MVCC Women’s Basketball team received a first-round bye and advance to the quarterfinals with a home game against No. 5-seeded Jefferson Community College at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. If the Lady Hawks win, they will travel play to the highest-seeded team remaining, which will also host the Regional Semifinals and Finals. Teams seeded higher than MVCC are No. 1 North Country, No. 2 Onondaga, and No. 3 Herkimer.
