Critelli dominates on the mound for the Hawks

Mohawk Valley Softball increases their win streak to 8 as they defeat Finger Lakes during Saturday's double header. The Hawks won game one 4-0 with a stellar performance from Sophomore Trinity Critelli (Frankfort, NY). Critelli shut down the Lakers offense with an impressive 19 strikeouts, zero walks and only gave up 3 hits in her 7 innings. Critelli also played a major role at the plate for the Hawks with her 2 RBI's. Sophmore Mady Hogan (Columbia, NY) went 2 for 3 at the plate and scored 1 run.  Kimberly Birmingham (Camden, NY) continues with her hot bat as she sent a solo homerun over the center field fence in the top of the 7th to seal the Hawks win.

 

In Game 2, the Hawks clinched their second win of the day with a 2-1 victory over the Lakers.  Freshman Elana Calicchia's (Rome, NY) had a day at the plate where she went 2 for 2 with a triple and scored both of the Hawks runs. The pitching staff for the Hawks runs deep as Joy Stevens (Marcy, NY) also shut down the Lakers offense in her 7 innings. Stevens had 9 strikeouts and zero walks. After the Lakers scored 1 run early in the 2nd inning, Stevens shut them down for the rest of the game. The Hawks answered right back when Sophomore Abrianna Wadley (Utica, NY) had the tying RBI to score Calicchia in the bottom of the 2nd. The game remained tied until Freshman Skyler Witzigman (Taberg, NY) had the go ahead RBI in the bottom of the 4th to score Calicchia again.

 

The Hawks are scheduled to face off against the Finger Lakes Lakers again at home Sunday April 25th at 1 & 3pm.
