Track and Field Claims Both Region III Championships

This past weekend Mohawk Valley's Men's & Women's track and field teams competed at the  Regional championship. After all the points were tallied both the men and women were crowned 2021 Outdoor Region III Champions!


On the Women's side the official team scores were as follows; Mohawk Valley 155, Finger lakes 91 and Herkimer 44. Top Individual performances included Olivia Markwood, who placed first in the shot put and 400 meter hurdles. Jennifer Walike, placing first in the 10k, 5k, 1500, and 800 meter dash. Lexi Phillips placing first in the 100, 200 and 400 Meter dashes as well as long jump, triple jump and high jump. The performance earned Lexi Phillips Track and Field athlete of the meet honors. 

On our Men's side the team scoring went as follows, Mohawk Valley 278, Herkimer 93 and Finger Lakes 61. Notable Individual performances included; Zack Moore placing first in the triple jump, Manny Carbone placing first in high jump, Andy Hadasz placing first in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes as well as long jump. Continuing a successful day Hadasz along with Danny Bagalwa, Manny Carbone and Zack Moore took home the win in the 4x100 relay. Not to be outdone Jason Januario finished first in the Hammer throw and Discus earning him Field Athlete of the Meet honors. Mike Bennett continued the teams impressive day by placing first in the 5k, 1500, and 10k. Bennett's 10k time of 32:55.86 ranks him number 1 on the division III national leader board. Bennett alongside Kevin Hufziger, Sean Valentine and Mike Roberts took the top spot in 4x800 relay which may have been the the most exciting race of the day. Bennett, Hadasz, Bagalwa and Robert's capped off the impressive day with a 4x400 relay victory. Mike Bennett was name track Athlete of the Meet.
