Five Picked to All Region Team, Mountain Valley Conference Team, Two Picked to All Tournament Team:

Five members of the Mohawk Valley Community College Softball team were honored as part of the 2021 NJCAA Division III All Region teams, Mountain Valley Conference Team and two to the All Tournament Team.

Sophomore shortstop, Kimberly Birmingham (Camden NY), makes history setting the single season HR record with 7, along with her second team selection and Mountain Valley Conference Team. She finished 4th in the region with a batting average of .535 along with 7 doubles and 24 RBI's. She was joined on the second team by sophomore outfielder, Megan O'Connell (Johnstown NY), who had a standout year in left field finishing with a 1.000 FPCT. Sophomore catcher, Maddelyn Hoehn (Oriskany, NY), made the second team and Mountain Valley Conference Team with a final BA of .372, 11 doubles and 21 RBI's along with freshman first baseman Skyler Witzigman, (Adirondack), who had her breakout year finishing .370 at the plate including a grand slam to win the game against Jefferson to lock the Hawks into the #2 seed.

Critelli had a brilliant season as a sophomore to earn both honors All Region Second Team and All Tournament Team. She made history setting the single game strike out record with 19. This season, Critelli remained in the top 5 of the region for most strike outs, averaging almost 2 per inning. She finished second in the region with 114. She also remained in the top five of the region for ERA.

Freshman third baseman, Elana Calicchia (Rome NY/ RFA), makes her first Mountain Valley Conference Team and All-Tournament Team after a breakout year. The freshman third baseman finished the season with a .440 batting average, 10 doubles and 27 RBI's. Among her season highlights was a pivotal game 1 of Regional Championships that included all 3 RBI's on the day giving the Hawks the win over undefeated Corning.

 

Sophomore pitcher, Joy Stevens (Marcy, NY), made the Mountain Valley Conference Team. She also made history at MVCC for most career strikeouts with 243, to go with her single season strikeout record her first year with 138. Sophomore outfielder, Makayla Nadler (Mechanicville, NY), joined her on the Mountain Valley Conference team for her stellar performances in center field. She also got the job done at the plate finishing with a .326 BA.

 

MVCC went 18-7 overall this season, hosting semi finals and making it to the Regional Championship for the first time in about a decade.
