Hawks Baseball Completes Series in Maryland

The MVCC Baseball team opened up their 2024 campaign in Maryland with games against NJCAA Division 1 Harford CC and NJCAA Division 2 Community College of Baltimore County at Essex.

On Friday the Hawks took on a talented Harford CC for their first challenge of the 2023 Spring season. The hawks battled to a 13-3 defeat after spotting the fighting owls a 5-0 lead in the first inning.  The Hawks managed only 4 hits on the day.

In game one of the Sunday DH against CCBC Essex the hawks committed 8 errors and allowed 16 hits to the Knights in a devastating 24-1 loss.  Kaname Kanda had the only multi-hit game for MVCC with 2 singles.

In the nightcap of the doubleheader which was plagued by 20-30 mph sustained winds and cold temperatures, the young Hawks showed what they are made of by coming back and defeating the Knights 8-3.  Austin Stoquert dazzled on the mound in a complete game striking out 5 against 4 walks and only 4 hits. Benny Welch had a bases clearing double and sophomore shortstop Kevin Del Vecchio had 3 hits and 3 RBI's. Akash Sankersingh had two hits and Odlanier Andrades added two hits including a triple.

The Hawks return to action Friday at Onondaga CC.
