#6 MVCC Women's Soccer Falls 4–2 in Hard-Fought Match at Jefferson CC
Watertown, NY — The #6-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) Women's Soccer team suffered a tough 4–2 loss on the road Wednesday afternoon, as Jefferson Community College mounted a strong comeback to hand the Hawks only their second loss of the season.
Despite outshooting Jefferson 29–7, MVCC was unable to capitalize on their chances while Jefferson's clinical finishing and standout goalkeeping proved to be the difference.
The Hawks came out flying, striking first in the 12th minute when Ryan Colton found the back of the net unassisted. Colton then turned provider in the 23rd minute, setting up Isabella Kleban for a well-placed finish to give MVCC a 2–0 lead.
Just a minute later, Jefferson cut the lead in half with Abby Bombard scoring off a pass from Morgan Dillenback. The home team tied it up before halftime in the 39th minute, when Samantha Stokely netted her first of three goals on the day, again assisted by Dillenback.
MVCC continued to press in the second half, peppering Jefferson goalkeeper Eily Vaughn with shots.
Stokely completed her hat trick with goals in the 50th and 85th minutes, assisted by Jonise Zehr and Kyla King respectively, putting Jefferson ahead for good and sealing the 4–2 win.
The Hawks split time in goal between McKenna Coffey and Mackenzi Stevens with both keepers seeing 45 minutes of action.
The Hawks return to action when they take on Monroe Community College on October 12th at Proctor Stadium.
