#9 MVCC Women's Soccer Outlasts #8 Genesee in 3-2 Road Thriller

In a battle between two nationally ranked NJCAA powerhouses, the #9 Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) women's soccer team showcased their composure, quality, and resilience, securing a thrilling 3-2 road victory over #8 Genesee Community College on Friday night.

In the 13th minute, sophomore Isabella Kleban broke the deadlock. Kleban received a well-timed assist from Ryan Colton and calmly slotted home the opening goal to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage — a lead they would carry into halftime.

The second half saw MVCC continue to build on their rhythm, and in the 67th minute, they were rewarded again. This time it was Maggie Plummer who found the net, converting a clever assist from Amanda Graziano. Just three minutes later, the Hawks struck again. Colton, who had earlier assisted the opening goal, added one of her own off another perfectly placed ball from Graziano, stretching the lead to 3-0 with just over 20 minutes remaining.

The Cougars mounted a spirited comeback late in the match, beginning with a goal from Carly Burgess in the 80th minute, assisted by Abby Hall. The pressure continued to mount as Samantha Bates narrowed the gap even further with a second goal in the 87th minute, this time set up by Isabella Thom, bringing the score to 3-2.

Anchoring that defensive stand was goalkeeper McKenna Coffey, who turned in a standout performance between the posts. Coffey faced 12 shots on goal and made 10 saves, including several key stops in the final minutes to preserve the win.

MVCC will close out the regular season when they take on Hudson Valley Community College at 7:00PM at Longo Stadium on Monday, October 20th.
