MV Baseball Falls to Generals

MV Baseball Falls to Generals

Mohawk Valley took on rival Herkimer Tuesday afternoon at Home, in what ended up being a high octane matchup filled with hot bats, great pitching and heavy support from the local community.

In game one, Herkimer pitcher Colin Skermont stole the show striking out 6 Hawks in route to a 10-5 victory. However, the Hawks Brandon Breakell was a bright spot, as he had 2 hits and an RBI in just 3 at bats. 4 other teammates contributed with hits, but the impressive bats of the Generals were too much for the Hawks on this day. Herkimer ended the game with 14 hits to just 6 by the Hawks ultimately leading to the victory.

As the sunny afternoon went on, the Hawks rallied and prepared for game 2.

Game 2 was a back and forth contest through 6 innings as the Generals held a slim lead of 4-3 going into their final at bat. Unfortunately for the Hawks, thats when the Generals broke through. The top of th 7th saw Herkimer score 6 runs and create the seperation needed to put away the Hawks by a final score of 10-3. Colton Davis and Patrick Linck were bright spots for the green and white as they both had 2 hits.
On the mound, Brandon Breakell added to his impressive overall day with 6 strikeouts that gave the Hawks an opportunity for victory but ultimately fell short.

With the losses, Mohawk Valley falls to 15-12 and 11-7 in Region III play. With no time to waste, The Hawks will look for revenge Thursday afternoon as they head to Herkimer to take on the Generals in a double header slated for a 2:00 PM start.
