Hawks To Play For NJCAA National Championship

Hawks In The Huddle

The MVCC Men's Basketball team is just one win away from their first-ever national title following a 93-87 win over Eastfield College on Friday afternoon.

Jordanny Cuevas-Marte, Justin Steed and Jonathan Dean each scored 19 points as the Hawks held on for the win.

Steed hit a buzzer-beater at the end of the first half to put MV up 49-46 as the teams went into the locker room. Eastfield quickly took the lead 50-49 before Cuevas-Marte and Adonis Fishburne pushed the Hawks back in front for a lead they never relinquished.

MVCC will play the #1 seed Sandhill Flyers in the NJCAA Championship Game tonight at 7 p.m.  The semifinals and championship game were moved to the same day due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

"We're very fortunate to advance to the title game, our first for the program. We always talk to our guys about being flexible, about having to adjust as the game goes on, as the season goes on. Sometimes you have to adjust in life and our guys are certainly doing that this week. We're fortunate to be playing tonight, especially being just one of two games across the country," said Hawks Coach Matt St. Croix.
