MVCC Completes in Day One of the NJCAA Track Nationals in Utica

Day one of the 2018 NJCAA National Track and Field Championships at Mohawk Valley Community College is in the books.  Mother nature delivered a mix of sun, clouds and afternoon rain showers but it couldn't put a damper on the nearly 400 athletes in town competing for a national championship.

Eric Dumas and Michael Battin were the first two Hawks to compete today as both athletes are entered in the decathlon. Dumas is currently in 4th place with 2397 points and Battin in 5th place with 2305 points. Ronald Gamez from Bergen Community College is the leader with 3093 points.   Day 2 of the decathlon will feature the 110 M Hurdles, Discus, Pole Vault, Javelin, 1500m. 

Thomas Randall was the first Hawk to medal as he finished in 5th place in the hammer throw (36.75m).   The South Lewis native helped MVCC pick up their first four points of the championships. 

Dakota Corney competed and took 7th in the Steeplechase. 

Day 2 of the NJCAA National Track and Field Championships will feature the conclusion of the Decathlon and Heptathlon, the Men's and Women's 10,000m runs and several field events including: 

Women Pole Vault
Men Long Jump
Men Discus Throw
Men High Jump
Women Long Jump
Men Javelin Throw
Women Discus Throw
