Hawks score winning run in 10th inning

The MVCC softball team captured a huge victory this week as the Hawks flew past Herkimer County Community College for a 2-1 final in the season opener of Region III competition.

The Hawks, 2-3 overall, fell behind in the second inning as the Generals tallied one run. This lead held strong for five innings until MVCC tied the game. In the bottom of the tenth inning, the Hawks drove in the winning run.

Going the distance on the mound for the Hawks was Julianna Rose. She allowed nine hits but not before striking out two while facing 40 batters.

At the plate, Nicole Burline paced the Hawks with two hits while Brianna Georgia scored once to go with her single and double. First baseman Corrin Filhan also had two hits and drove in one run.
