Hawks fall after six-inning rally

A victory seemed inevitable following a 10-run first inning, but the Hawks could not hold on as Tompkins Cortland Community College slowly chipped away at the lead en route to an 19-10 victory over MVCC in a Region III victory in Dryden on Sunday.

Leading the Hawks softball squad at the plate in the first inning was Vanessa Jecko as she went 3-for-4 to score one run and drive in one run. Also leading MVCC was Corrin Filhan (2-for-4) and Kristen Larrabee (2-for-3) while each scored once and drove in two RBIs each.

The Hawks had three pitchers work the mound as Filhan went 2 2/3 innings to give up 11 hits, 11 runs and four walks for the loss. Julianna Rose went 2/3 innings and Mikelle Deck lasted two innings.

Extra inning hits for the Hawks were made by Francesca Rose and Filhan with a double each.
