Hawks drop doubleheader to powerhouse Monroe CC

The Hawks' softball team had a tough time trying to figure out the Monroe Community College pitching staff as the hosts dropped an 8-0, Region III final on Saturday.

The Hawks (6-11 overall, 5-3 Region III) connected for two hits, a single by left fielder Mikelle Deck and a double from catcher Brianna Georgia.

Working the mound for the Hawks' first 3 2/3 innings was Julianna Rose who allowed four runs on one hit and five walks while striking out two. She took the loss. Coming in relief for the final 2 1/3 innings was Corrin Filhan, who gave up four runs on four hits and four walks. The Hawks committed eight fielding errors on the day.

In the second half of the doubleheader, Monroe's pitching staff ruled the day as the guests went home with a 15-4 victory in a game that went five innings.

The Hawks' had four hits in this contest, including a triple by Filhan to drive in two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Filhan also had a single as did Brittany Englert and Vanessa Jecko.

Julianna Rose took the loss, allowing eight runs on seven hits and four walks in 1 1/3 innings. Deck and Filhan came on in relief to finish out the game.
