Hawks blast 6 home runs to sweep SUNY Adirondack in season opener

 

In Game 1, Hawks Sophomore Pitcher Angelina Hays set the tone on the mound as she struck out 7, and only allowed 5 hits. Her excellence continued offensively, as she went 2/3 with 2 RBI's and a homerun. Sophomore second baseman Eliza Marusic also contributed heavily going 2/3 and hit a homerun in the Hawks win. In addition to the duo of Hays and Marusic, MV received strong contributions from Sophomore shortstop Kimberly Birmingham, as she went 1/3 with a double and 3 RBI's of her own to seal the win for the Hawks. Game 2 proved to be more of the same for the Hawks. Pitcher Alivia Neff threw a gem as she racked up 10 strikeouts and only allowed 3 hits in a masterful pitching performance. Angelina Hays continued her strong day as she went 3/3 and hit another homerun, and added 3 more RBI's along the way. The duo of Hays and Birmingham proved to be a key difference maker all afternoon, as Birmingham added another homerun and 2 more RBI's in game 2. Rounding out the scoring for MV was Elana Calicchia with another homerun and 3 more RBI's and game two, as well as Freshman centerfield Brianna Grogg who had 4 RBI's and a homerun as well! The Hawks return to action April 9th at home against Monroe Community College in a game slated for a 1:00 PM start.
