Kaba leads No. 4 Hawks over SUNY Adirondack

Kaba leads No. 4 Hawks over SUNY Adirondack

The No. 4 nationally ranked MVCC Men’s Soccer team defeated visiting SUNY Adirondack 8-1 on Thursday evening.

Cheick Kaba lead the attack for the Hawks, netting the first four goals of the game. Just 20 seconds in, Kaba stole the ball from a SUNY Adirondack defender and slotted it past the goalkeeper. He struck again off a corner kick delivery from Douglas Barrera to put the Hawks up 2-0 just 17 minutes into the game. Kaba earned his second hat-trick of the season when Alvaro Tejedor Ivanov combined with Kaba who slotted home the opportunity. SUNY Adirondack found their first tally of the game in the 23rd minute to make the score 3-1. Kaba scored his fourth and final goal just 27 minutes into the game.

Jesus Sanchez continued the scoring in the second half when Vicente Soto crossed the ball in the box and Sanchez got on the end of it to give the Hawks a 5-1 lead. Mario D’Elia got his first tally of the game in the 65th minute when he beat multiple defenders in the box and slotted the ball past the Timberwolves’ goalkeeper. Dan Beltran returned to action after missing the last five matches and scored on a header from Vicente Soto, who found his first tally of the game in the 73rd minute to close out the scoring for the Hawks. Jamie Toft, Breno Guimaraes, and Juan Carlos Ulacia would all get minutes in net for the Hawks to continue their undefeated season.

“We are finally getting guys healthy after starting the season pretty banged up,” said Head Coach Dominic DiMaggio. “We still aren’t at 100% and unfortunately won’t be this season after losing one of our captains to a knee injury just two days into preseason. The talent within this group is by far the strongest we’ve had at MVCC and hope we can continue to gel as a group as we get into the tougher stretch of the regular season. I think our best is yet to come.”

The Hawks return to action this weekend when they travel to Fulton-Montgomery on Sunday for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
