MVCC Baseball defeated Jefferson CC in game one of Monday's doubleheader by a score of 4-2. Jefferson blew open a close game in the 6th inning of game 2 going on to a 15-3 victory and doubleheader split.
Austin Stoquert threw a complete game on the mound for the Hawks in game one striking out 4 and scattering 7 hits. The big hit came off the bat of Franklyn Gutierrez when the freshman hit a towering homerun to right field, putting the Hawks up 3-2 in the 5th inning. MV would add an insurance run in the 6th on an RBI groundout from Ryan Leos. Jack Morotti hit a solo homerun to put the Hawks on the board in the 2nd inning.
Game two was close heading into the 6th inning as starter Brandon Rauth held the Jefferson batters in check in his five innings of work. The freshman right hander allowed 4 earned runs with 6 strikeouts. The Hawks offense only managed three hits in game two.
MVCC is on the road at SUNY Adirondack on Thursday.
