The Mohawk Valley Men's Lacrosse team played back-to-back days, on the road against Hudson Valley on Tuesday, then home against Jefferson on Wednesday evening. Tuesday's game was a tightly contested match where the Hawks fell just short on their comeback by a score of 12-10. Wednesday, Jefferson defeated Mohawk Valley 24-2.
On Tuesday, the Hawks started slow falling behind 3-0, but goals by Kyle Erway and Dominick Gratch closed the gap to make the score 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. Gratch would add another one going coast to coast halfway through the second quarter, and sophomore Zion Snyder would strip a Hudson Valley midfielder in front of the goal and bury the loose ball to make it 5-4 at the half. Erway would notch his second goal on a beautiful feed from Max Hunt early in the third to tie the game at 5-5. Hudson Valley went on a run after that extending the lead to 11-5. Like always, the Hawks kept battling. Erway scored his 3rd goal of the game and Hunt added three himself along with sophomore midfielder Derek Ferrone to close the score to 12-10 with just over three minutes remaining on the clock. Hudson Valley would fend off a fury of shots late to defeat the Hawks. Sophomore Jacob White added 14 saves in net for Mohawk Valley.
On Wednesday, Mohawk Valley returned to action on short rest and challenging weather. Freshman Mikhail Kocovic made his debut in goal for the Hawks stopping 16 shots as the Cannoneers defeated the Hawks by a score of 24-2. Sophomore defenseman Marco DiCastro anchored the Hawk defense this week combining for 10 caused turnovers over the two games. Both goals in this contest were scored in the second quarter by the pair of Rome attackmen, as Max Hunt finished a nice feed from Derek Ferrone with 10:39 left in the second quarter, and then Dominick Gratch isolated a Jefferson defenseman, and came around and finished the shot to extend his team lead to 17 points on the season with seven goals and 10 assists.
