Even though MVCC Hawks collected eight hits to Genesee CC's six, they still fell 3-1 on Saturday. Carley Robinson and Kaylee Beam each collected two hits for MVCC Hawks.

Both teams were strong in the circle. Genesee CC pitchers struck out three, while MVCC Hawks sat down 13.

Genesee CC got on the board in the top of the first inning after Shelby Scharfen singled, scoring two runs, and Sloan Jonathan hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Scharfen earned the win for Genesee CC. The starter gave up eight hits and one run over seven innings, striking out three and walking three. Beam took the loss for MVCC Hawks. The starting pitcher went seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out 13 and walking one.

Lani Roberts led the team with one run batted in.

Scharfen drove the middle of the lineup, leading Genesee CC with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. CJ Ryan led Genesee CC with three hits in three at bats. Genesee CC turned one double play in the game. Genesee CC were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Katy Herrmann had the most chances in the field with four.

 

GAME 2: MVCC 11 | GCC 2

 

Kaylee Beam drove in five runs on four hits to lead MVCC Hawks past Genesee CC 11-2 on Saturday. Beam doubled in the fifth scoring two, singled in the first scoring one, singled in the second scoring one, and singled in the third scoring one.

MVCC Hawks got on the board in the top of the first inning after Scout Ludwig walked, Beam singled down the right field line, Savannah Kirkby grounded into a fielder's choice, and Kyla Zabek grounded into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.

CJ Ryan homered to center field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first for the Genesee CC.

MVCC Hawks extended their early lead with three runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI singles by Abby Jepsen, Beam, and Zabek.

MVCC Hawks added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Ludwig doubled down the left field line, and Beam singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Beam earned the win for MVCC Hawks. The righty gave up two hits and two runs over five innings, striking out two and walking two.

Zabek and Jepsen each collected multiple hits for MVCC Hawks. MVCC Hawks had patience at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. Ludwig and Sarah Zuchowski led the team with two walks each. MVCC Hawks stole three bases in the game.

Ryan drove the middle of the lineup, leading Genesee CC with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Ashley Blair and Ryan each collected one hit for Genesee CC. Genesee CC turned one double play in the game.

MVCC Hawks welcome Hudson Valley CC Vikings on Thursday for their next game.
