Utica, NY — September 17, 2025
The #6-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) men's soccer team showed exactly why they're among the top teams in the nation with a commanding 8-0 win over North Country Community College on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hawks wasted no time getting on the board, with Mario Camacho opening the scoring just 6:25 into the match off an assist from Francesco Tagliavini. From there, MVCC never looked back, pouring in six goals in the first half.
Tagliavini, who had a goal and an assist, set the tone early, while Davi Pena Moretzsohn and Souayibou Diop each netted two goals to lead the Hawks' offensive explosion. The trio was supported by an unselfish midfield led by Ahmadou Amar and Theo Muniz, who combined for four assists. Spyrou struck first in the second half from Kaue Caires. Dinis Pires put the final tally on the board from Oscar Otero Navarro in the 51st minute.
In total, MVCC outshot North Country 33-1, including an 18-1 advantage in shots on goal. Defensively, MVCC was airtight, allowing just a single shot which goalkeeper Anderson Costa Filho calmly saved to secure the clean sheet. The Hawks also dominated on set pieces, earning 13 corner kicks to North Country's none.
With the win, MVCC continues to build momentum as one of the top NJCAA teams in the country. They'll look to carry this form into their next matchup on Saturday when they take on Clinton Community College in Plattsburgh, NY at 6:00PM.
