#4 MVCC Men's Soccer Dominates #6 Fulton-Montgomery 6–2 in Top-10 Showdown
The #4-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) men's soccer team made a powerful statement on Saturday afternoon, defeating #6 Fulton-Montgomery Community College 6–2 in a highly anticipated Region III matchup.
MVCC wasted no time getting on the board, striking early in the 11th minute when Francesco Tagliavini netted the opening goal off a setup from Mario Camacho. The Hawks doubled their lead just four minutes later with Yannick Diaby converting a pass from Davi Pena Moretzsohn to make it 2–0.
Mohawk Valley continued to dominate possession and pressure, with Souayibou Diop adding a third in the 32nd minute, assisted by Tagliavini. Fulton-Montgomery pulled one back late in the first half as Joe Gore found the net unassisted at the 35:14 mark, trimming the deficit to 3–1 heading into halftime.
The second half saw MVCC regain control, with Tagliavini bagging his second goal of the game in the 54th minute off another assist from Pena Moretzsohn. Fulton-Montgomery responded five minutes later with a goal from Lennart Kübler, assisted by Léo Vautrin, cutting it to 4–2.
But the Hawks sealed the game with two more goals in the final 20 minutes. Camacho added a goal of his own in the 72nd minute following a feed from Diop, and Bangalay Soumahoro capped the scoring in the 90th minute with an assist from Ahmadou Amar.
In goal, Anderson Costa Filho made two saves for MVCC, playing the full 90 minutes. On the other side, Mathis Briffaud faced a barrage of pressure, recording five saves but conceding six goals on 11 shots on goal.
The Hawks return to action when they take on Tompkins Cortland Community College on 10/15 at 7PM at Proctor Stadium.
