#4 MVCC Men's Soccer Soars Past Genesee with 5-0 Shutout Victory

The #4-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) men's soccer team delivered a dominant performance on Friday, October 17, securing a convincing 5-0 shutout victory over Genesee Community College.

The scoring began in the 33rd minute when Souayibou Diop found the back of the net off a well-placed assist from Davi Pena Moretzsohn, giving MVCC a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. The Hawks returned from the break with renewed energy and quickly extended their advantage. In the 57th minute, Bakir Omercevic slotted home a second goal, assisted by Yannick Diaby. Diop struck again in the 72nd minute—his second of the match—this time capitalizing on a setup from Mario Camacho to push the lead to 3-0.

MVCC's offensive pressure continued into the closing stages. Francesco Tagliavini added a fourth goal in the 84th minute, finishing a play created by Diego Silva. Just minutes before the final whistle, Oscar Otero Navarro capped off the commanding performance with a fifth and final goal, assisted by Diop, who was involved in three of the five scores.

Diop's two goals and one assist led the way offensively, while Omercevic, Tagliavini, and Navarro each contributed a goal apiece. Assists were spread across the team, with Moretzsohn, Camacho, Silva, and Diaby each providing key passes to set up scoring opportunities. MVCC also earned eight corner kicks, and managed to tally 19 shots, including 13 shots on target. Goalkeeper Anderson Costa Filho earned a clean sheet in the effort, registering three saves.

The Hawks will complete the regular season on Monday, October 20th with a home game against Hudson Valley Community College. The game will take place at 4:00PM at Accelerate Sports Complex.
