#1 MVCC Men's Basketball Opens 2025 Season with Convincing Win over Hudson Valley

The top-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College men's basketball team opened its 2025 campaign in dominant fashion, defeating Hudson Valley Community College 92–73 on Saturday afternoon at home.
Hawks guard Darnell Childs led the charge with a game-high 25 points, shooting an efficient 10-for-20 from the field while also adding five rebounds, a block, and a steal.
Kevion Cummings displayed his all-around efficiency by scoring 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Cummings also contributed three assists and two steals.
The Hawks' balanced attack continued with Sincere Smith, who tallied 13 points, four assists, and two blocks, bringing energy on both ends of the floor. Brandon Way Jr. added 11 points and six rebounds. Inside, forward Davon Stanley was a force on the boards, securing a dominant 16 rebounds to go with 9 points, while Sean Paige came off the bench to chip in 7 points and 8 rebounds in an efficient 14 minutes of play.
As a team, Mohawk Valley shot 47.1% from the field and 26.9% from three-point range, while holding Hudson Valley to just 33.8% shooting overall. The Hawks controlled the glass with a 42–35 rebounding advantage and shared the ball effectively, finishing with 14 assists on 33 made baskets.
With the win, Mohawk Valley begins the 2025 season at 1–0. The Hawks return to action when they host North Country Community College on November 12th at 5:00PM.
