Hawks Finish Weekend 2-1

Hawks Finish Weekend 2-1

After key wins over Fulton Montgomery Community College, and Bryant and Stratton Rochester, the Hawks headed into thanksgiving on a high note.

After the short break, Mohawk traveled to Herkimer College for a game against the generals for a 7:30 PM start.

The Hawks got off to a quick start utilizing a balanced attack and went into the half holding a 4 point lead in a hostile enviroment, 36-32. Jordan Drain and Ike Sheppard led the way with stellar performances in the 1st half, and point guard Jamir Smith did a great job running his team and that led to a number of great scoring opportunities for Mohawk heading into the half.

It was more of the same in the second half, as the Hawks received a number of contributions across their lineup and led by as many as 9 with 4 minutes remaining.

Despite the stellar play of the Hawks, and leading much of the second half, a few deep threes by Herkimer and Jordan Drain being disqualified from the contest with 5 fouls, the Hawks were unable to hold on

and found themselves down 6 with 45 seconds remaining. A number of fouls in attempts to lengthen the game by Coach Fuller, led to the Hawks losing by a score of 76-62 on Tuesday evening.

"Obviously an outcome that we didn't expect given the flow of the game up until about 4 minutes remaining. But it is a game of runs, and they made some tough shots that didn't allow us to to close out the game. I just think that last few minutes was a bit of a perfect storm. A few tough shots that they hit, a few difficult 50/50 moments, but first and foremost, us not doing our job to close out out the game is what led to that loss. Credit to Coach Lee and his team for closing out the game the way they did."- Coach Fuller stated after the loss.
