Hawks Win 7th Straight

The Mohawk Valley Men's Basketball team took on Cayuga Community College on Sunday afternoon in a 1:00 PM contest.

In a game that was highlighted by transition scoring and play well above the rim, the defensive efforts of both teams was showcased throughout the first half.

Early on, the Spartans recieved heavy contributions from Shaheem Sanders and his brother Kareem Sanders who combined for 18 first half points. But it was the Hawks signature unselfishness that proved to be too much for the Spartans, which had the Hawks leading 33-22 going into halftime. 7 Hawks scored in the first half, which proved to be a key difference.

As the second half started, the Hawks began to wear down the Spartan defense with high energy defense and transition play. Jordan Drain, Travis Gray, Ike Sheppard, and Jamir Smith combined for 56 points to give the Hawks the seperation they needed to open up the game and ultimately seal the victory for Mohawk Valley.

Asa Beyah, Lateef Johnson and Daniel Barrera will also a key part of the Hawks victory, filling the stat sheet and creating a number of opportunities for teammattes for the duration of the game.

"We are playing together, and playing for each other, plain and simple." Coach Harley Fuller said after the victory.
