26-3 Hawks Head to NJCAA National Tournament

26-3 Hawks Head to NJCAA National Tournament

The Mohawk Valley Men's Basketball Team won 20 straight games before being upset in the Region 3 championship game in Late February. The high octane Hawks defeated the FMCC Raiders twice during the 2022 season, and won 4 out of 5 dating back to the 2021 season, however the desperate Raiders made a late push, with their season on the line, and were able to persevere for an impressive victory over the Hawks.

After losing that game, that Hawks fell to 26-3 and patiently awaited the 2023 NJCAA Selection show with their fate in the hands of the selection commitee. On Wednesday, the Hawks learned their fate, and were announced as only one of 4 at large bids for the NJCAA National tournament, and will be one of 12 teams in the country competing for a national championship next week at Herkimer.

Mohawk Valley will take on Prince George's CC out of Maryland on Wednesday, March 15th, in a 12:00 PM game at Herkimer Community College. The Hawks earned a 9 seed, with Prince George's earning an 8 seed. The Hawks will need to win 4 games in 4 days if they hope to complete the season with a National Championship in Herkimer. The winner of the 8/9 game will take on the #1 overall seed Sandhills CC on Thursday afternoon.

"I am ecstatic that my guys have earned this opportunity. I think it speaks volumes to the respect Region 3 receives Nationally, and quite honestly rightfully so, as I believe we play in one of the most competitive regions in the country. Having the opportunity to compete for a National Championship is something we spoke about in November, and it's been a goal of ours ever since that conversation. There are so many talented teams heading the Herkimer, and I am excited for our group to embrace the stage and let their work show through. We have pushed this group hard and we have always believed this group has a chance to do something special and I am excited to get out there and compete on Wednesday against a talented Prince George's team." - Coach Harley Fuller stated.
