
HERKIMER, N.Y. – The #1 seed Mohawk Valley Hawks defeated #2 seed Herkimer College Generals to capture the 2024-2025 NJCAA Region 3 Championship in an electric showdown at Herkimer College.
From the opening tip, the energy inside the gym was electric as both teams battled fiercely with the championship on the line. The game remained tight early, but midway through the first half, the Hawks began to assert their dominance on both ends of the floor. Their stifling defense and relentless rebounding made scoring difficult for the Generals, while Mohawk Valley's offensive execution created high-percentage opportunities.
Leading the charge in the first half, Andre Pasha and Jalen Bradberry who poured in 10 points each, helping the Hawks take control. A clutch three-pointer from AJ Burns shortly before the break sent Mohawk Valley into halftime with a 35-25 advantage.
Herkimer responded with intensity to start the second half, quickly cutting the deficit to five with a 5-0 run. However, the Hawks had an answer. A highlight-reel dunk from Isaiah Earl followed by a three-pointer from Alex Barnhill reestablished Mohawk Valley's double-digit cushion. As the game wore on, the leadership of Jamir Smith and Khai Pugh helped guide the Hawks, with both players providing crucial offensive direction and defensive stops.
Down the stretch, Mohawk Valley maintained control, holding a double-digit lead for much of the final seven minutes before securing the NJCAA Region 3 Championship.

With the victory, the Mohawk Valley Hawks have officially punched their ticket to the NJCAA National Tournament, where they will await their matchup. The tournament bracket will be revealed during the NJCAA National Tournament Selection Show on Wednesday, March 5.
