Thompson scores four goals to lead Hawks past CC of Morris

After falling behind in the first period, the Hawks ice hockey team rallied to open a two-game series against the Community College of Morris with a 6-4 final at the Utica Aud.

MVCC drew first blood with a penalty-play goal from forward Matt Thompson off a pass from defenseman Joe Giglio. But CC of Morris was not to be denied as Zach Chamberlain scored back-to-back goals for a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.

The Hawks have had strong performances in the second period this season and Saturday afternoon was no different. Forward Michael Rich scored an unassisted goal which was followed by Thompson's second goal of the game. This time he was assisted by Kevin Kennedy and Nick Hall, both defensemen.

Rich and Thompson repeated this performance, with Kennedy and Giglio assisting the first goal and Giglio and Hall assisting on Thompson's goal.

Entering the final 20 minutes with a 5-3 lead, Thompson completed the "Texas Hat Trick" with his fourth goal. Conor Eisenbeck made the assist.
