Hawks fall to Broome in shootout

It may have taken the MVCC ice hockey team a period to warm up, but the Hawks were flying around the ice in a Region III game against Broome Community College at the Utica Auditorium Wednesday night. The Hawks played toe-to-toe with Broome CC, but the visitors slipped away with a 6-4 victory.

The first period was a battle of the goaltenders as both teams were unable to put a shot into the net. Penalties hindered the Hawks in the second period as Broome scored three power-play goals to jump out. MVCC wasn't to be settled down with this issues as the Hawks cut into the lead late in the period on a goal by Conor Eisenbeck. This was his second goal of the season with Matt Thompson and Kevin Kenney getting credited with the assist.

The third period was a shooting match as Broome took advantage of three penalties to score three goals. But the Hawks were right there matching the visitors as Kenney scored off a pass from Eisenbeck, which was followed by Yah Grciano scoring off a pass from Matt Thompson. MVCC's third goal of the period was an unassisted score by Thompson.

Broome outshot MVCC 53-44 with Marcus Fortin making 38 saves.
