Mierek and Hunt named to All-Region Team

Mierek and Hunt named to All-Region Team

For the first time in the history of the Mohawk Valley Men's Lacrosse program, the Hawks have landed players on the Region III All-Region Team.

Sophomore Ryan Mierek was named to the All-Region 2nd team, and sophomore Max Hunt was named to the All-Region 3rd team.

Mierek, a sophomore from Holland Patent anchored the Hawks defense all season and is a versatile player that can play offense as well with both a short stick and a long stick.  Mierek finished second in the country in caused turnovers with 37.  He is a matchup nightmare for whoever he is covering.  He is aggressive and has no problem taking the ball away from his opponent.  He finished second on the team in groundballs with 49 and was also tied for second on the team in goals scored with seven.  Ryan will be joining the workforce in training as an electrician after graduating from Mohawk Valley this spring.

Max Hunt, from Rome, NY led the Hawks in scoring this season.  Max is a shifty, athletic offensive player that can play both attack and midfield and did so successfully for the Hawks.  He finished the season with 16 goals and four assists totaling 20 points, which ties him for third place all-time in single season scoring for the program.  Max was always covered by each team's best defensive player and still found success in scoring multiple goals four times this season including setting a school record seven points on five goals and two assists against Tompkins-Cortland CC.  Max will continue his playing career next year at Utica University for the Pioneers.
