The Mohawk Valley Men's Lacrosse team had their home opener on Saturday and lost to the Mercer CC Vikings 18-1. The Hawks opened the game early cutting a Mercer lead to 2-1 when freshman Kyle Erway netted his first career goal on a nice inside move, but unfortunately that was the only time the Hawks could get one past Mercer. The Hawks had numerous opportunities to score in the first half and were stopped by Mercer goalie Spencer Stephenson. "The looks are there, and the offense is starting to progress, we just are struggling to finish. The weather was challenging, but both teams were out there so you must tough it out and give it everything you can. We had a couple injuries in the game that halted any momentum that we were trying to build, and they capitalized on our mistakes," said Coach Evanoff.
Sophomore Jacob Posello led the Hawks with a career high eight groundballs. He also caused four turnovers and won 7/16 face-offs for the Hawks. Freshman Carson Collins had his best game with a career high of six groundballs and had a couple good shots that were stopped by Mercer. Sophomore Jacob White stopped 15 of the 33 shots he faced on Saturday to add to his save total for the season. The Hawks will return to action this Friday, March 28th at Region III opponent Tompkins-Cortland CC at 4:30pm before hosting #4 Genesee CC on Sunday at D'Alessandro Stadium at 1:00pm. Both games will be live streamed.
