The #5 nationally ranked MVCC Men's Soccer team traveled to Rochester, NY on Wednesday afternoon to take on the #20 NJCAA DI nationally ranked Tribunes of Monroe Community College. Both teams weren't able to break the tie until the 84th minute when an MVCC defender received a red card for a challenge that gave Monroe a freekick. Monroe capitalized on the opportunity to give the Tribunes a 1-0 lead. The Haws would respond right off the kickoff when Gustavo Nunes was fouled in the box which resulted in a penalty kick for the Hawks. Alieu Barrie stepped up and smashed home the attempt to tie the game at 1-1. The Hawks thought they notched the game winner just 3 minutes later when Jesus Sanchez got in a breakaway but the Tribunes goalkeeper got a hand to the shot which sent the ball off the cross bar and straight down to the goal line.

"We played great soccer tonight and created plenty of chances to win the game" stated Head Coach Dom DiMaggio. "I thought we dictated the play and played great collectively. We faced some tough adversity with the red card, going down a goal and to 10 men. We figured out a way to tie the game up and still get extremely dangerous while down a man. We will be without Andrew for Genesee on Saturday but I believe this game will help us in our preparation."

Jaime Mata started his first career game for the Hawks and had 4 saves on the day, including a couple of key saves for the Hawks. The Tribunes goalkeeper would finish the game with 9 saves on the day.

The #5 Hawks return to action on Saturday when they travel to Batavia, NY to take on #2 nationally ranked Genesee Community College in a battle of the unbeatens in a Region III showdown at 6:00PM. The Hawks and Cougars have tied the last three times they've played dating back to the Fall 2021 season. Both teams are currently in a 3-way tie for 1st place in Region III.
