Hawks win season opener with a balanced scoring attack

 

Early ball movement gave the Hawks an early lead. The first points of the game came on two consecutive layups from Copenhagen native, Raegan Dalrymple, with assists from Sophia Murray and Terah Echols. Terah Echols added another field goal, assisted by Sophia Murray. After a 6-0 run, the Lakers got on the board with a layup of their own. However, the Hawks quickly answered with a three-point field-goal from sophomore Fran LoConti to make it 9-2. The lead was extended to 15-2 after buckets from freshmen Dalrymple, Echols and Mackenzie Hess, Norwich native. Terah Echols, a freshman from Gates-Chili high school led all scorers after the first quarter with 10 points. In the second quarter, eight different Hawks converted for field goals, four of them being from behind the arc. Sophomore Lonnie Wadsworth added two three-point field goals, Mackenzie Hess and Sophia Murray each added on of their own.

The second half continued in similar fashion as key contributors off the bench extended the Hawks lead. Aaliyah Dodd, freshman from Syracuse, 8 of her 11 points in the fourth quarter, and Freey Pleasants, also a Syracuse native, added three more field goals to finish out the fourth quarter.

The Hawks finished with game with 85 points. The freshman forward duo Terah Echols and Raegan Dalrymple dominated the glass, Echols finishing the game with a double double, 20 points to lead all scorers and 15 rebounds. New Hartford standout, Sophia Murray added 10 points and 7 assists on the game.

The Hawks are now 1-0, and will travel to Hudson Valley CC (Troy, NY) on Saturday for their second regional matchup of the year.
