The Hawks win in OT at HVCC, Echols garners Region III player of the week

Freshman Terah Echols garners Region III player of the week after a 70-68 overtime win at Hudson Valley CC. The first quarter was back and forth and finished with a tie score, 20-20. Freey Pleasants scored 11 of her 13 points in the first quarter to lead all scorers. The Hawks outscored the Vikings by 5 and went into the locker room with a 33-28 lead at halftime. Echols scored 13 of her 38 points in the first half and remained consistent in the second half. The third quarter continued with back-and-forth play and the Hawks were up by 4 points going into the 4th quarter. The Vikings tied the game at the end of regulation behind Payton Graber's 13-point quarter, 60-60. Echols went 3-4 from the field and shot 4-4 from the foul line for 10 points in the fourth quarter. The Vikings started overtime with momentum, scoring the first two baskets to make it 60-64. However, Terah Echols continued her surge with an offensive rebound put back to make it 62-64, followed by two free throws, and another field goal, making it 66-64 Hawks. The Vikings tied it up after two free throws by sophomore Ewans-Edmonds. Echols responded with another layup on the other end making it 68-66. Two Viking free-throws from Payton Graber tied the score again at 68. It was sophomore Franchesca LoConti who clinched the victory for Mohawk Valley CC on 2 free-throws with 10 seconds remaining. Echols led all scorers with 38 points, she had 13 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Rochester native Terah Echols received Region II player of the week honors for the week of November 6-12 after achieving a double-double in her first two games as a freshman. In an 85-35 win against Finger Lakes CC, Echols finished with 20 points and 15 rebounds in 26 minutes. Echols followed that up with 38 points and 13 rebounds in an overtime road win against Hudson Valley CC.
