2023-2024 Hawks Women’s Basketball Season Preview

2023-2024 Hawks Women’s Basketball Season Preview

Heading into the 2023-2024 season, the Hawks are focused and excited to build on the success experienced in the 2022-2023 season. Leading the way are returning point guard Mackenzie Hess and All-Conference swingman, Raegan Dalrymple. Despite nagging injuries last season, the Copenhagen native averaged 9.5 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game. "Raegan creates matchup issues for our opponents due to her size and speed and has worked hard in the off-season, it is showing," says head coach Gabe Coffey, 2022-2023 Region III Coach of the Year, now entering her third season. Mackenzie Hess was crucial to the Hawks success last season, the sharp-shooting point guard from Norwich, New York, made many key shots in big games in addition to running the team. Coffey is confident that Hess will make a bigger impact on the game this season, "Mackenzie is another strong sophomore leader for us, she is more confident and has added to her offensive game in the off-season as we will need her to score in a variety of ways this year." Mohawk Valley CC also returns much improved post player from Bishop Grimes high school, Aaliyah Dodd

The Hawks have added size and athleticism to the roster with freshman newcomers, local standouts, Ella Morse, and Morgan Weigand from Clinton and Poland high school, respectively. Nevaeh House, a lightning quick guard from back-to-back Section 2 champions, Albany High School, will make an immediate impact for the Hawks as will Florida newcomer Nataya McGee, a talented swingman from Wildwood high school.

Mohawk Valley Community College women's basketball has challenged themselves with four scrimmages against SUNY Morrisville, SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Polytechnic Institute and Sage College in preparation for the upcoming season. The Hawks open their season on the road against Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York. Tip off time is slated for 3:00 pm. Last season the Hawks came out on top in two close games against the Vikings of Hudson Valley CC. Their home opener is on November 16, against Fulton-Montgomery Community College. "We are excited to enter Conference and Regional play," says Coffey, "we have to be ready to battle in every game."
