Hawks Soar Past Hudson Valley

Hawks Soar Past Hudson Valley

Mohawk Valley Women's basketball opened their season on the road against Hudson Valley, in Troy on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks came out sharp in the opening quarter, forcing 9 turnovers and taking a 15-14 lead behind 5 points by Nevaeh House and 4 points by Ella Morse. It was evident early on, that the Hawks defense was going to play a huge part in the flow of the game.

As the second quarter started, it was more of the same for Mohawk Valley, with great ball movement and physical defense, Coffey's Hawks pushed the basketball out in transition and put together a impressive and well balanced 19 point 2nd quarter. Mackenzie Hess was stellar in the second quarter, scoring 5 points and pushing the tempo, alongside House who added 8 more points, to close out the first half, and the green and white headed into the locker room with a  33-31 lead over the Vikings. Coming out in the second half, the Vikings were simply unable to meet the energy and connectivity level of the surging Hawks. Sparked the Hawks defense, the Vikings turned the ball over 11 times in the 3rd quarter, which amounted to a 18-4 period for Mohawk Valley. Raegan Dalrymple was impressive over their run with 8 points and 4 rebounds in the 3rd quarter alone. Nataya McGee scored 6 points on 3/7 shooting, and gave the Hawks a nice boost on the wing.

Although the Vikings were able to play the Hawks even in the 4th quarter, the 3rd quarter run of Mohawk Valley proved to be too much for them to overcome and the Hawks ultimately won the game by a final score of 63-47.

The Hawks were led by Nevaeh House's 19 point, 6 rebound, 3 steal performance. Raegan Dalrymple tallied a double double of 11 points, 12 rebounds and added 5 assists. Ella Morse had 12 points, 6 rbeounds and 5 assists, and Nataya McGee had 11 points and 8 rebounds. Mackenzie Hess was also impressive in the victory putting together an overall quality stat line of 7 points, 6 assists, and 9 rebounds while running the Hawks offense effectively.
