Hawks Take Down Raiders

Mohawk Valley Women's Basketball rolled into Saturdays matchup with a 2-0 record to start the season. When the afternoon ended, their undefeated record would still be in tact after a 58-52 victory of the the FMCC Raiders. 

The Hawks defense was a key factor in the opening quarter, as they built a 5 point lead after holding the visiting Raiders to just 7 points over the first 8 minutes of the contest. 

As the second quarter began, both teams came out firing from beyond the arc, and showing their transition scoring ability. Heading into the locker room the Hawks held a slim 25-24 lead. 

Coming out of the locker room, both teams again came out with a burst of energy and combined for 41 points in the 3rd quarter alone to set up a pressure packed finish in the Jorgenson Athletic Center with the 4th quarter coming up.

As the final stanza began, Coach Coffey's girls came out with a high level defensive mindset that would ultimately decide the outcome of the game. In addition to their defensive prowess, Mackenzie Hess' 4 clutch threes were important in the Hawks third quarter run. The Hawks held the Raiders to just 8 points over the final 8 minutes, while scoring 12, to earn the victory by a final score of 58-52. 

The Hawks were led by Raegan Dalrymple who had 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 steals, who also put together an impressive defensive performance on Region 3's leading scorer and rebounder. The leading scorer for the Hawks on the afternoon was Mackenzie Hess who contributed 16 points while running the point and controlling the pace for the green and white. Nevaeh House put up an impressive 14 points 5 rebounds performance, while Nataya McGee scored 11 points and contributed 8 rebounds of her own.
