Mohawk Valley handles Herkimer, 68-59

Mohawk Valley handles Herkimer, 68-59

On a cold and snowy night in Utica, the opening tip for Mohawk Valley's women's basketball game was moved from a 6:00 PM to a 4:00 PM due to the conditions outside.

It may have been cold outside, but the streaking Hawks came out hot in search of a 4-0 start to the young 2023-2024 season.

In the opening quarter, both teams traded blows and kept the packed crowd on the edge of their seats in this high level contest. Going into the half, despite a spirited Hawks performance, the Generals took a 28-24 lead going into the locker room.

Coming into the 3rd quarter, it was evident that the Hawks heard Coach Coffey's message loud and clear as they came out with blazing hot offense, and high pressure defense from the opening moments of the second half. All in all, the 3rd period saw Mohawk Valley go on an incredible 21-2 run to take complete control of the contest going into the 4th quarter.

With their backs against the ropes, The Generals made a late game push, but the clutch foul shooting of the Hawks proved to be too much for Herkimer to overcome. With the Hawks victory, they are now 4-0 on the season after defeating the Generals by a final score of 68-59. Mohawk Valley was lead by 24 points by Reagan Dalrymple.

The Hawks are back in action on Saturday afternoon as the take on the Timberwolves of Adirondack Community College.
