MV Defeats Jamestown, 67-58

Mohawk Valley opened up their second semester with an impressive 67-58 victory over Jamestown Community College on Wednesday afternoon. 

In the opening minutes, it was obvious that this was going to be a hard fought battle for 40 minutes. The opening quarter saw the Jayhawks take a 18-17 lead. Both teams pushed the ball in transition, utilized their defense to create early offense which proved to be a trend for the entire game. 

8 first half point for Mohawk Valley's Nataya Mcgee helped keep the Hawks within striking distance heading into half time down by 5 points. 

As the second half started, the Hawks turns up their defense and scooped up 7 steals which utimately led to an 18 point third quarter and a 3 point lead heading into the final quarter of play. 

The Hawks continued their stellar defense in the 4th quarter, turning the Jayhawks over 5 more times and sharing the basketball in the open floor to create opportunities for one another. Ultimately the Hawks dished out 12 assists, turned the Jayhawks over 16 times, and had 4 players in double figures which led an impressive 67-58 victory for Coffey's surging Hawks. 

Nataya McGee led the way with a double double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Neveah House scored 19 points, snatched up 5 steals and passed out 5 assists. Raegan Dalrymple notched another double double of 11 points and 15 rebounds, and Hawks point guard Mackenzie Hess racked up 11 points of her own while running the Hawks offense. 

The victory moves the Hawks to 7-2, and Mohawk Valley Women's basketball will be back in action today at 1:00 PM as they travel to Cayuga Community College for Sunday afternoon battle.
