Hawks Soar Past Cougars, 75-57

The Hawks took on Genesee Community College on Sunday afternoon in their second game of the weekend at home.

Coach Coffey had her Hawks flying out of the gate early, as they took a 16 point lead in the first quarter over the visiting Cougars. The first half saw the Hawks build a lead to as much as 20 points in the first half, but the Cougars battled back.

Some long range shooting, and transition baskets saw the lead get cut to 9 points for the hometown Hawks. With the lead under double figures, both teams headed into the locker room to regroup for a competitive second half.

As Coach Coffey has done at times this season, the Hawks came out in their signature man to man full court pressure which again opened the game back up for Mohawk Valley. As the lead went to as much as 23 in the second half, the Hawks were able to hold on and secure the 18 points victory over the Cougars to secure a 2-0 weekend in Utica.

Neveah House scored a team high 26 points for the winning side. Nataya McGee contributed another double double highlighted by 16 points to add some interior scoring for Mohawk Valley. Mackenzie Hess rounded out the double digit scoring for the Hawks as she added 11 points on 3 threes, and a strong right handed drive in the second half.

The Hawks will be back in action on Thursday evening as they take on Hudson Valley Community College in a game slated for 5:00 PM.
