Hess and McGee Propel Hawks Past Red Barons

Hess and McGee Propel Hawks Past Red Barons

The Red Barons of Corning Commmunity College traveled to Utica for a 12:00 PM contest vs. your Mohawk Valley Womens Basketball team today.

In a noon tip off, the Hawks proved that the early start wouldn't be an issue early on. Coming out on fire, the Hawks defense held the Red Barons to just 8 points in the 1st quarter, while scoring 19.

Mackenzie Hess did her best Caitlin Clark (Iowa) impression dropping in an array of 3's early and often to give the Hawks a huge burst of offense. Her counterpart Nataya McGee continues to impose her will on any and all opponents this year, scoring on some tough drives and defending at a high level as well.

The Hawks efforts earned them a 35-17 first half lead, with defense being a major key to their early success.

Coming into the second half, The Hawks came out "throwing haymakers" at the visiting Red Barons. Another 19 point third quarter for Mohawk Valley, gave the Hawks a 54-27 lead with just 1 quarter remaining.

In the final stanza, both teams traded blows but a low scoring quarter gave the Hawks a 67-38 victory over Corning Community College. This victory gives Coach Coffey and her a team an impressive 14th victory of the season.

Nataya McGee lead the way for the Hawks with a 22 point performance. Mackenzie Hess made her presense known in a big way as she dropped in 6 threes on her way to 18 points while leading her team to a victory from the point guard position.

The Hawks will have a 7 day break, before traveling to Monroe Community College for a non-league game on February 17th.
