NJCAA Region 3 Semi-finals: Hawks Fall To Lazers

NJCAA Region 3 Semi-finals: Hawks Fall To Lazers

Mohawk Valley Womens Basketball started their post season run at Jefferson Community College, as they took on the Hudson Valley Vikings in the Quarterfinal round.

The Hawks won the first two meetings between the Region 3 foes and the green and white would look to take down the Vikings in their biggest moment to date with a trip to the NJCAA Region 3 Semifinals on the line.

The 3 seeded Hawks did not disapoint. Led by a 21 point 14 rebound performance by Nataya McGee and a game high 31 point performance by Raegan Dalrymple, as well as 20 points dropped in by Neveah House,  the Hawks would not be denied as they sailed into the Semifinals on Saturday afternoon to take on the Onondaga Lazers.

Just 24 hours later, the Hawks would take on the 2 seeded Onondaga Lazers with a trip to the NJCAA Region 3 Championship on the line. The first half was as competitive as advertised. The back and forth affair saw the Blazers take a narrow 1 point lead into the locker room, 27-26.

As the two teams came back out onto the floor, it was obvious whatever the two coaches said to their teams, lit a fire under them from the start. The two teams combined for 38 third quarter points, and although the Hawks were able to build a 9 point lead with just 6 minutes left in the 3rd, the Lazers battled back to play Mohawk even in the third and keep their 1 point lead going into the final quarter of play.

The final quarter was a battle early on, but a few more plays made by Onondaga saw them gain enough seperation to take a 61-54 win over our Hawks to stop their title hopes in the NJCAA Region 3 Semfinals.

Nataya McGee scored 17 points and pulled in 14 rebounds, and Nevaeh House scored 21 points in the loss for the Hawks. Raegan Dalrymple finished her Hawk career with a double double of 10 points and 14 rebounds, as they Hawks finished their season with an impressive record of 17-5.
