
In game 1 on Saturday, against #12 Kingsborough CC, the Hawks jumped on the board with early layups from Jani Washington and Nataya McGee. The game was back and forth early, the Hawks took a 9-4 lead at 4:55 in the first quarter with two more layups from Shayla Baker and Tiara Smith. That would be the last time the Hawks would lead as the Waves full court pressure overwhelmed the Hawks for the duration. The final score was 87-65. Mohawk Valley CC finished the game with three in double figures. Freshman Tiara Smith and Jani Washington, both from Rochester, finished with 11 and 14 respectively. Nataya McGee finished with 21 points.
On Sunday, in the second game of the Torchia Classic, the Hawks faced #15 Hostos CC. The first half was back and forth, Jani Washington and Tiara Smith finishing the half with 7 points each to bring MVCC within 5 to end the half 30-25. Second quarter foul trouble became a problem for the Hawks. Hostos exploded, scoring 33 points in the 3rd quarter to extend their lead 63-33. The gators extended their lead in the fourth, with a final score of 90-45. Freshman Jani Washington finished the game with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
The Hawks begin Region 3 play on Wednesday, hosting Herkimer CC at 5pm.
