Hawks Complete Regular Season, Sets Their Sights On Regional Tournament

The Mohawk Valley Hawks faced off against Hudson Valley Community College on Wednesday evening but were unable to recover from a tough first half, falling to the Vikings 76-43.

Hudson Valley came out strong, setting the tone early with a 15-8 lead after the first quarter. The Vikings continued their offensive surge in the second quarter, extending their advantage to 37-17 at the half. Despite the Hawks' best efforts to battle back, the deficit proved too much to overcome.

Nataya McGee led the way for MVCC, putting up an impressive 19 points in the contest. Though the Hawks couldn't secure the win, they'll look to regroup and bounce back in their next matchup against FMCC on Friday.

The Hawks took on the Raiders of FMCC this past Friday with both teams trading baskets in a back-and-forth first quarter, it was evident that this was going to be a competitive matchup early on.

MVCC edged out FMCC early, taking a 14-13 lead after the opening period. However, foul trouble and offensive struggles hindered the Hawks in the second quarter, as they managed just eight points. FMCC capitalized, heading into halftime with a 34-22 advantage.

The Raiders extended their lead in the third quarter, fueled by three different players knocking down shots from beyond the arc. But the Hawks refused to back down, finishing the quarter on a strong run to trim the deficit to 14 heading into the final frame.

MVCC showed resilience and determination in the fourth quarter, outscoring FMCC 19-9 and narrowing the gap to just three points with under two minutes remaining. Despite their relentless push, the Hawks couldn't quite complete the comeback, as FMCC held on for the 65-60 victory.

Felise Fowler had 16 points for the Hawks. Jani Washington had 14, Tiara Smith & Bailey Wegrzynowski added 11, and Arissa Bolton contributed 10 points for the green and white.
