Lady Hawks Get Big Win Over North Country 8-5

The MVCC Lady Hawks picked up an intense 8-5 victory over North Country Community College on Wednesday night at D'Alessandro Stadium.

The teams traded first half goals as NCCC scored the first goal of the game but the Hawks quickly replied with a goal from Sara Harris (#20). After the Saints found the net again Cheyenne Smith (#10) answered with a goal of her own.  North Country scored one more time to take a 3-2 lead into halftime.

MV tied it up securing the first goal of the second half, with the Saints marking another goal to take the lead again. The Hawks battled to tie it up again before MV's Dava Haas (#9) scored an 8-meter shot to take the lead. Noth Country tied it back up at 5 before the Hawks iced the game with 3 big goals.

Coach Ethan Thomson said "What won it for the us was having patience clearing the ball up the field, which lead to more offensive possessions and hard work across the field. Stopping the ball on defense  by communicating and playing strong team defense, and applying pressure and causing turnovers on our offensive end when the Saints were trying to clear the ball".

The biggest factor to the Hawks win was the amazing performance by goalie Stephanie Cronin (#30) as she finished with an impressive 19 saves on 24 shots faced, Coach Thomson added "not only was her performance in goal impressive, she was a strong voice on defense, and rallied the team during halftime". She was presented the game ball by her head coach.

The Hawks play against CBCC Essex at D'Alessandro Stadium hosting CCBC Essex at 1pm and Sunday at 1pm at home against Suffolk CC.
