#2 Hawks Pull Away From Generals, 7-0

#2 Hawks Pull Away From Generals, 7-0

In a highly anticipated local matchup against the Herkimer Generals, the Mohawk Valley Hawks knew emotions would be high from start to finish. However, it was evident early that the Hawks were ready for any challenge that would be put in their way on Wednesday afternoon.

Just 2 minutes into the match, Jazmyn Gillette got things started for the Hawks, putting one into the back of the net off an assist from Amber Piersma

As the first half went on, Mohawk Valley patiently controlled the tempo and waited for the right time to strike. 17 minutes later the Hawks picked their spot.

Alex Bates did just that, as she put a ball into the back of the net off of a great pass by Amber Piersma, to make the score 2-0, and give the Hawks a commanding 2-0 lead.

Just a minute later, Alexis Bates scored another goal on a pass from Jazmyn Gillette/Jordyn Squire, to give the Hawks complete control of the first half and a little bit more breathing room.

Again, the Hawks found themselves controlling tempo and moving the ball all over the field in search of their next opportunity to lengthen their lead over the Generals. With 42:19 on the clock, Alexis Bates decided to add another goal to her already impressive day on a pass from Olivia Bochniak, giving herself a hat trick, and making it a 5-0 Hawk lead going into the break. The nationally ranked Hawks impressive first half wasn't just on the offensive end of the field, but the defensive end as well, and after a short break the Hawks looked to make a statement in the second half.

Mohawk Valley's second half was headlined by stellar defensive performances across the board, as well as two second half goals by Jordyn Squire, one of which was assisted by Jazmyn Gillette. As the final horn sounded, the Hawks completed their victory of rival Herkimer by a final score of 7-0. The #2 Hawks continued on their winning ways, winning their 11th straight game and completing another full game shutout, their 9th of the season.

The Hawks will take on North Country Community College on the road Wednesday, October 19th, at 1:00 PM looking for their 12th win of the season.
