Hawks Sail Into Region 3 Championship Game

Hawks Sail Into Region 3 Championship Game

The Mohawk Valley Women's soccer team came into Tuesdays game against Hudson Valley, having won 12 straight games.

It was evident as the Hawks took the field in their Semifinal matchup, that they were more then ready to do all they could to extend their streak and make a statement against a talented Vikings team.

The game got off to an electric start, as the Hawks created numerous opportunities as they put heavy pressure on the Vikings right out of the gate. Despite not scoring in the first few minutes of the contest, the Hawks remained consistent with their attack and had the Vikings doing their best to hold off a Mohawk surge.

At the 14:13 mark, the Hawks broke through as Jordyn Squire found the back of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead off of a great assist from Amber Piersma.

As the game went on, it obvious that The nations overall point leader, Piersma, was set on leaving her mark on this game and in a big way. After dishing out that first assist, Piersma then scored 3 straight goals, all off of assists from Jazmyn Gillette, to give the Hawks a commanding 4-0 lead with just 12 minutes left in the half. At this point Mohawk Valley found their stride and was creating opportunities all over the field, and after those three assists, Gillette found the back of the net for a goal of her own just 5 minutes before half time.

The assist from Kylee Richard to Gillette, gave the Hawks a 5-0 commanding 5-0 lead going into the break.

To start the second half, Piersma was again in attack mode and it paid off. Her unassisted goal at the 52 minute mark added to the Hawks scoring total, making it 6-0 and a PK by Carissa Pouk at the 56 minute mark all but put the game away making it 7-0

Two more opportunistic goals my Gillette (Assisted by Piersma) and Cameron Mosher (Assisted by Squire) capped off a stellar offensive performance for the Mohawk Valley Women's Soccer team and punched their ticket for a Saturdays Region 3 championship game at Genesee Community College. The Hawks will play the winner of Herkimer and Finger Lakes at 5:00 PM.
