Hawks dominate Vikings, 4-1

 

In their second home game of the week, Mohawk Valley women's soccer team took on the Vikings of Hudson Valley Community College. 

It was evident from the opening whistle the the Hawks were ready and excited for the matchup, and it showed through it all facets of the game. 

In the 20th minute, Mohawk Valleys Megan Canipe played a ball across to Jacey Hinds who found the back of the net for Hawks to make the score 1-0. As the Hawks continued to control possession throughout, 15 minutes later in the 35th minute, Megan Canipe added her second assist of the game when she played a through ball to Mallory Mower, who found the back of the net with a goal of her own to give the Hawks a commanding 2-0 lead.

Hudson Valley responded with a goal in the 40th minute, which made the score 2-1 going into halftime.

In the second half, the Hawks continued to control the pace and possession and broke through again in the 76th minute when Alexis Bates found the back of the net off of an assist from Morgan Angus to make it 3-1. Just 2 minutes later, Amber Piersma struck a ball that found its way past Hudson Valley's keeper, and added an assist to Mallory Mowers already impessive 1 goal night.

The Hawks closed out the game after that with a strong defensive effort which only allowed 3 shots on goal for the Vikings vs. 14 shots on goal for the hometown Hawks. 

Mohawk Valley improved to 8-1 on the season with the victory and is back in action on Wednesday, October 11th as they travel to Herkimer to take on the Generals.
