Hawks Sail Past Raiders, Will Play For Region 3 Championship

The Mohawk Valley Women's soccer team took on the Raiders of Fulton Montgomery Community College on Tuesday afternoon, with a spot in the NJCAA Region 3 Finals on the line.

The Hawks last met the Raiders on September 23rd of this season, where Mohawk Valley took down FMCC by a final score of 12-0. When the two met again on Tuesday afternoon, the Hawks looked to put together another impressive 90 minute performance and earn their way into the 2023 NJCAA Region 3 championship game.

Just 17 minutes into the game, Lauren Packard put the Hawks on the board off of an assist from Cam Mosher to take the lead 1-0. Despite numerous shots on goal, and dominating the possession game, the Raiders defense held strong and did their best to hold off the heavy pressure by Coach Vitales front line.

In the 49th minute, Krista Panko broke through off of a pass from Amber Piersma, to give the Mohawk Valley a commanding 2-0 lead.

As they have been all season long, the Hawks defense was physical, strong, and consistent which helped them to continue to control possession and turn away any opportunities for the Raiders. The Hawks heavy offensive pressure continued on throughout the match in search of a third goal, and they received just that when Amber Piersma found the back of the net off of a pass from Megan Canipe, to make it a 3-0 game with just 25 minutes remaining. The Hawks found the net one more time in the 86th minute when Lauren Packard scored Mohawk Valley's 4th goal of the afternoon (off a pass from Amber Piersma) which put away the Raiders for good.

With the victory, the Hawks roll into the NJCAA Region 3 Semifinals which will be played on Saturday afternoon at Genesee Community College. Kickoff is a 3:30 PM and the Hawks will take on Jefferson Community College.
