#3 Hawks Prevail in showdown with #5 Lazers

The nationally ranked #3 Hawks traveled to Syracuse to face the #5 ranked Onondaga College Lazers this past week.

The first half was a battle between the two highly ranked programs. One great bright spot for the Hawks throughout the game were, midfielders Krista Panko, Megan Canipe, and Morgan Angus. In an evenly matched 1st half, the trio controlled the tempo and kept the Hawks on track.

However, despite their best efforts the Lazers were able to get on the board first, when they scored a goal in the 70th minute of play.

With both teams battling on both ends of the field through 70 minutes, that goal by the Lazers seemed to send a surge through the Hawks front line.

Quickly following that Onondaga goal, Jenna Johnson found the back of the net for the Hawks just one minute later to even the score. Megan Canipe threaded the needle for the green and white to find Johnson for the goal in the 71st minute.

The two teams continued to battle and the Hawks continuous attempts in testing the Lazers' goalkeeper prevailed as Jenna Johnson gave the Hawks the lead in the final minutes of play. The Isabella Kleban assist to Johnson, utimitely gave the Hawks the victory by a final score fo 2-1.

For the afternoon, the Mohawk Valley offense attempted 14 shots on goal compared to holding the Onondaga Lazers to just 8 shots on goal for the game.

The Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday, September 25th as they travel to Genesee Community College for a 6:30 PM kick off.
