Hawks Tie 1-1, in Showdown with Cougars

The Mohawk Valley Women's Soccer team traveled to Genesee Community College on Wednesday night for a showdown with a talented Cougars team.

In a hard fought first half in which both teams battled for every inch on the turf, it was the Genesee that was able to strike first with a few minutes before the end of the opening stanza. As the half went on, it was a back and forth battle as both teams were tested. As the first half horn sounded, the Hawks headed into halftime down 1-0.

As the second half began, it was obvious that Coach Vitale and his staff empowered their team to make a run. Despite applying heavy pressure on the Cougars defense, the Hawks were unable to break through for a goal through 85 minutes of action.

However, in the 86th minute, the Hawks persistence paid off when Mallory Mower played a ball to Megan Canipe. Canipe took the Mower pass and buried it in the back of the net tying the game in epic fashion.

The final minutes were played, as most of the game was played, back and forth, physical, and hard fought. Despite the best efforts of both teams to take the lead, the game ended with a final score of 1-1, adding a Draw to the record of both teams.

The Hawks will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they host Jamestown CC at 4:00 PM on the campus of Mohawk Valley Community College.
